In brief: Axelera AI is shipping its Europa accelerator in validated Dell and Supermicro systems. The 2025 architecture is now a deployable enterprise product. Performance comparisons remain vendor-supplied.

From silicon to standard PCIe cards

The datasheet lists 629 TOPS, a 45W TDP and INT4, INT8 and INT16 support. Eight AI cores pair with 16 RISC-V vector cores for pre- and post-processing, 128MB of L2 SRAM and 200GB/s of DRAM bandwidth. It comes as silicon, the half-length Edge 232p PCIe card and full-size Server 250p card.

Axelera says the Edge 232p is validated and available in the Dell XE5 and Supermicro 111AD. Dell, E4 and Axelera are also supporting the European IT4LIA and MeluXina AI factories. Reuters reports signed deals worth tens of millions of dollars. Axelera's sales pipeline above $1.5 billion is neither recognised revenue nor an order backlog.

The company reports more than 600 customer deployments across its portfolio. That should not be read as 600 Europa customers: the figure also includes the first-generation Metis edge platform.

Pandorex Analysis

The change is the move from evaluation to shipping standard cards and validated servers. Enterprises can add inference capacity without a proprietary rack platform. A shared Voyager software stack for Metis and Europa also lowers porting effort.

Axelera claims up to six times more tokens per second per watt than GPU systems. Its comparison uses internal testing against published competitor data, however; model choice, batch size, accuracy, software and system boundaries all affect results. Independent tests must establish whether the advantage survives production language, vision and agent workloads.
