Microsoft application combines attack patterns with unusual server behavior

Many network connections are normal for a web server. A single process making unusual outbound connections, however, may indicate an attack. Microsoft describes a security architecture that evaluates such relationships together. Application US20260332619A1 was published on October 22, 2026.

Two checks, one security score

The system represents telemetry as more than two data vectors, for example network connections, process activity and machine type. A model trained on labeled examples checks how closely their relationships resemble known attack patterns. A second model, trained without such labels, evaluates deviations from typical behavior for this class of machine. The two results produce a combined security score. If it meets a specified criterion, the system issues an alert or takes defensive action, such as terminating a process.

Independent claim 1 in the original document claims this combination. Claim 9 specifies the three data categories; claim 8 considers historical false-positive rates. Paragraphs [0065]–[0069] explain the context of different server types; [0078]–[0084] describe score combination and responses. These variants are not mandatory features of every implementation.

Context does not establish effectiveness

The document gives possible runtimes and resource figures as implementation examples but provides no reproducible comparative measurements of detection quality. An actual product integration is not established either. Anomalies need not be attacks; data quality, reference behavior and thresholds remain critical. With false positives, automatic process termination can itself disrupt operations.

Document and status

“Multi-Vector Correlation Using Threat and Anomaly Analyses to Assess a Real-Time Security Threat”: Applicant Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLC; US application 19/185,124, filed April 21, 2025. The cover lists no earlier priority. A1 denotes an application publication. We could not independently confirm the current official prosecution status on October 24, 2026; a grant is not established.

Pandorex View: The interesting point is the joint assessment of attack knowledge and machine role. Whether this actually reduces false alarms requires testing with real operational data.
